Alabaster is a naturally ocurring rock which is quarried in many parts of the world. Each quarry yields an Alabaster unique to itself in colour and graining. It looks very much like a soft version of marble, but unlike marble, Alabaster is translucent to light, which makes it uniquely suitable as a material for the manufacture of diffusers and shades to adorn chandeliers. Some of the most beautiful chandeliers are adorned with this incredible material. It is usually hand cut and ground to form the diffusers. Being rock it is incredibly resistant to aging and will last many lifetimes under normal conditions.
